5.4 V8 Triton (260 Hp) 4x4 Automatic Verdict:

Rating 5 stars

Performance Verdict

The ultimate combination for power and capability, delivering top-tier performance for the most demanding tasks, with the added traction of 4x4 and ease of an automatic.

Fuel Economy

The least fuel-efficient option, but justified for its superior towing, hauling, and off-road capabilities.

Best Use Case: Heavy-duty towing, serious off-roading, and professional applications where maximum power and all-terrain capability are essential.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Modernized styling and improved interior comfort over previous generations.
  • • Wide range of powerful V8 and capable V6 engine options.
  • • Excellent towing and hauling capabilities, especially with Triton V8s.
  • • Available 4x4 system enhances versatility and all-weather performance.
  • • Strong aftermarket support and parts availability.

Cons:

  • • Fuel economy is generally poor across the lineup, particularly with V8 and 4x4 models.
  • • Some early Triton V8s had known issues like spark plug ejection or cam phaser noise (though more prevalent in later years).
  • • Ride quality, while improved, is still truck-like compared to SUVs or cars.
  • • Large size can make maneuvering and parking challenging in urban environments.
  • • Interior materials, while durable, are basic by modern standards.
