The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name Starting with the LT trim. Standard and "Custom" trims are still called Silverado. Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year....(Read more on Wikipedia)

6.6 Duramax TD V8 (365 Hp) SRW Automatic Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

Delivers the robust torque and power of the Duramax diesel in a Single Rear Wheel (SRW) configuration, offering excellent performance for heavy loads without the width of DRW.

Fuel Economy

Good fuel economy for a heavy-duty diesel, especially when compared to gasoline options, making it a strong choice for those needing diesel power but not extreme DRW capacity.

Best Use Case: Heavy towing and hauling where maneuverability is slightly more critical than ultimate stability, or where the maximum payload/towing of DRW is not strictly necessary.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Exceptional towing and hauling capabilities, especially with the Duramax diesel.
  • • Robust and durable construction, built for heavy work.
  • • Spacious Crew Cab offers comfort for multiple passengers.
  • • Powerful engine options (Vortec V8 and Duramax TD V8).
  • • Available 4WD and DRW configurations enhance versatility and stability.

Cons:

  • • High fuel consumption, particularly with the gasoline V8.
  • • Ride quality can be stiff when unladen, typical for a heavy-duty truck.
  • • Large size can make maneuvering in urban environments challenging.
  • • Interior refinement is utilitarian compared to modern luxury trucks.
  • • Maintenance costs for the Duramax diesel can be higher than the gasoline engine.
