4.6 V8 Triton (231 Hp) 4x4 Automatic Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

This 4x4 variant of the 231 Hp 4.6L V8 offers added off-road capability and all-weather traction, suitable for lighter tasks where four-wheel drive is essential, though performance remains modest.

Fuel Economy

Fuel economy is a concern, as the 4x4 system adds weight and drivetrain losses, making it less efficient than its 2WD counterpart, despite being the least powerful V8.

Best Use Case: Light Off-road / All-weather Daily Driving / Utility

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Spacious SuperCrew cabin for passengers and gear
  • • Robust V8 engine options for strong towing and hauling
  • • Durable and rugged construction for demanding use
  • • Iconic styling and strong market presence
  • • Available 4x4 for enhanced off-road and all-weather capability

Cons:

  • • Poor fuel economy across all V8 engine options
  • • Ride quality can be firm and truck-like
  • • Large size can make maneuvering and parking challenging
  • • Known issues with 5.4L Triton engine (cam phasers, spark plugs)
  • • Interior materials are functional but not luxurious
