Rating 7 stars

Performance Verdict

The 4.3L Vortec V6 provides adequate power and strong low-end torque (339 Nm) for daily driving, towing light loads, and moderate off-road excursions. While not a performance engine, it moves the Envoy competently.

Fuel Economy

Fuel economy is a significant drawback, with urban consumption at 16.8 l/100 km (approx. 14 MPG US) and extra-urban at 13.1 l/100 km (approx. 18 MPG US). It's typical for a large V6 SUV of its era but costly by modern standards.

Best Use Case: Versatile for daily commuting, family hauling, light towing, and moderate off-road adventures, especially where reliability and utility are prioritized over fuel efficiency.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Robust and reliable 4.3L Vortec V6 engine
  • • Capable 4x4 system for varied terrain
  • • Generous cargo space (up to 2098L) for utility
  • • Strong towing capacity for its class (1589 kg with brakes)
  • • Relatively simple mechanics, easier to maintain

Cons:

  • • Poor fuel economy, especially in urban driving
  • • Dated interior design and materials by modern standards
  • • Ride quality can be firm and truck-like
  • • Limited modern safety features compared to newer vehicles
  • • Prone to rust in certain areas depending on climate
