Nissan Patrol:

The Nissan Patrol is a series of off-road vehicles and full-size SUVs manufactured by Nissan in Japan since 1951 and sold throughout the world. It is Nissan's longest running series of models.

Between 1988 and 1994, Ford Australia marketed the Patrol as the Ford Maverick. In some European countries, such as Spain, the Patrol was marketed by Ebro as the Ebro Patrol. 2.8 TD (115 Hp) 4WD Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

The 2.8L turbo diesel offers comparable peak power to the 4.2D but with a different torque delivery, feeling slightly more sprightly on-road due to turbocharging, though still not fast.

Fuel Economy

Generally offers slightly better fuel economy than the larger 4.2D, making it a marginally more economical choice for mixed driving, though still a thirsty vehicle.

Best Use Case: General off-road use, daily utility, touring where outright heavy towing isn't the primary concern.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Unrivaled off-road capability and ruggedness
  • • Exceptional mechanical reliability and durability (especially TD42)
  • • Simple, easy-to-maintain mechanics
  • • Strong aftermarket support for modifications
  • • High towing capacity

Cons:

  • • Poor on-road performance and acceleration
  • • High fuel consumption by modern standards
  • • Lack of modern safety features and creature comforts
  • • Noisy and unrefined cabin experience
  • • Prone to rust in certain areas
