Overall Rating
Nissan Sentra:
The Nissan Sentra is a series of automobiles manufactured by the Japanese automaker Nissan since 1982. Since 1999, the Sentra has been categorized as a compact car, while previously it occupied the subcompact class. Until 2006, Sentra was a rebadged export version of the Japanese Nissan Sunny, but since the 2013 model year, Sentra is a rebadged export version of the Sylphy. The Sentra nameplate is not used in Japan. Several other countries in Latin America sell their versions of the Sunny as the Sentra. B15 Overview:
Nissan Sentra (B15). With 244 Nm of torque, it offers ample pulling power. It has moderate fuel consumption (~10.7 l/100km). Weighing only 1268 kg, it’s quite light. Front‑wheel drive delivers efficiency and easy handling. Acceleration is good (0–100 km/h in 7.2 s). The top speed reaches 200 km/h. A four-door car with a separate trunk, ideal for families and daily commuting. Seating for 5 makes it ideal for daily use.
The Nissan Sentra B15 was primarily marketed in North America and was not tested by Euro NCAP. Safety ratings from other regions (e.g., NHTSA, IIHS) indicated acceptable performance for its era, but it lacks modern advanced safety features.
2.5 i V6 24V SE-R (177 Hp) Verdict:
Performance Verdict
Offers significantly more power and a sportier driving experience compared to the 1.8L, making it the performance choice for the B15 generation. (Note: The B15 SE-R used an I4 QR25DE engine, not a V6).
Fuel Economy
Decent fuel economy for its power output, but naturally less efficient than the 1.8L. Still competitive for a performance-oriented compact.
Pros and Cons:
Pros:
- • Excellent reliability, especially the 1.8L engine
- • Very affordable to buy and maintain
- • Good fuel economy (1.8L)
- • Spacious interior and decent trunk capacity for its class
- • Simple, straightforward mechanics
Cons:
- • Uninspired exterior styling and basic interior materials
- • Noticeable road and wind noise at highway speeds
- • Limited advanced safety features by modern standards
- • Known issues with the 2.5L QR25DE engine (e.g., pre-cat failure, oil consumption)
- • Ride quality can be firm on rough roads
Specifications:
Specifications are compared to those of the previous generation(B14: 1994 - 1999).
