Performance Verdict

Underpowered for an estate car, resulting in sluggish acceleration and requiring frequent gear changes, especially with passengers or cargo.

Fuel Economy

While inherently fuel-efficient, the need to work the engine hard can negate some of its economy benefits in real-world driving.

Best Use Case: Strictly city driving and short, light commutes where performance is not a priority.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Excellent practicality and cargo space for an estate.
  • • Wide range of engines, particularly strong TDI options.
  • • Robust build quality derived from VW Group platform.
  • • Exceptional value for money, especially on the used market.
  • • Reliable and durable, with many examples still on the road.

Cons:

  • • Interior design can feel dated compared to newer rivals.
  • • Some entry-level engines are underpowered for the estate body.
  • • Ride comfort can be firm on certain road surfaces.
  • • Not the most exciting or stylish design.
  • • Euro NCAP safety rating is only average for its time.
