The Rexton is offered with a choice of a new 2. 0L petrol turbo or 2. 2L diesel engine and available in two or four-wheel drive. It is equipped with Mercedes-Benz 7G-Tronic automatic or Aisin 6-speed automatic transmission or 6-speed manual transmission....(Read more on Wikipedia)

RX 290 TD (120 Hp) Automatic Verdict:

Rating 2 stars

Performance Verdict

The 120 Hp turbodiesel is significantly underpowered for the Rexton, leading to very slow acceleration (17 sec 0-100km/h) and strained performance, particularly with the automatic transmission.

Fuel Economy

Despite being a diesel, the low power means the engine works harder, resulting in only average fuel economy (11.3 l/100 km) for a diesel of its size.

Best Use Case: Utility / Low-speed driving

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Robust Mercedes-Benz derived engines
  • • Spacious interior and good cargo capacity
  • • Strong off-road capability (AWD models)
  • • Competitive pricing and value for money
  • • Comfortable ride for an SUV

Cons:

  • • Dated interior design and materials
  • • Poor fuel economy on petrol models
  • • Some engines are underpowered for the vehicle's weight
  • • Limited safety features compared to rivals
  • • Questionable long-term parts availability for some components
