Rating 5 stars

Performance Verdict

Legendary for its ruggedness and low-end torque, though power output is modest for its displacement, prioritizing durability over speed. Excellent for heavy loads and sustained off-road work.

Fuel Economy

Moderate fuel consumption for a large, naturally aspirated diesel. Less efficient than modern turbocharged diesels but highly reliable with simpler mechanics.

Best Use Case: Extreme off-road, heavy-duty utility, remote expedition, long-distance touring in harsh conditions.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Unmatched reliability and durability in extreme conditions
  • • Exceptional off-road capability and robust ladder-frame chassis
  • • Simple, proven mechanicals for easy field repairs
  • • High payload and towing capacity for heavy utility
  • • Strong resale value, especially in specific markets

Cons:

  • • Basic comfort and refinement, not designed for luxury
  • • Dated interior and lack of modern infotainment/convenience features
  • • High fuel consumption, particularly for the petrol V6
  • • Limited modern active and passive safety features
  • • Not designed for on-road performance or dynamic handling
