Rating 3 stars

Performance Verdict

The entry-level petrol engine, offering modest power and acceleration (12.9 seconds to 100 km/h). It's best suited for relaxed driving and will struggle with heavy loads or highway overtaking.

Fuel Economy

While specific fuel data is missing, it's expected to offer average economy for a naturally aspirated petrol engine in this class, likely higher than the diesels.

Best Use Case: Primarily city driving and short commutes where performance is not a priority.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Spacious and highly practical interior with flexible seating options
  • • Wide range of efficient and robust TDI diesel engines
  • • Solid build quality and comfortable ride for long journeys
  • • Excellent Euro NCAP safety rating for its time
  • • Good cargo capacity, especially with rear seats folded

Cons:

  • • Exterior design is somewhat bland and utilitarian
  • • Some petrol engines (FSI) can be prone to carbon buildup issues
  • • Entry-level petrol engines can feel underpowered when fully loaded
  • • Older models may suffer from common VW electrical gremlins
  • • Interior plastics, while durable, lack premium feel in some areas
