1.8 i 16V (135 Hp) Verdict:

Rating 7 stars

Performance Verdict

The 1.8 i 16V engine provides a respectable 135 Hp for its era, offering adequate power for daily driving and highway cruising. However, the 4-speed automatic transmission can feel somewhat dated and limits the engine's full potential, leading to less spirited acceleration.

Fuel Economy

Given its 1.8-liter displacement and a 4-speed automatic gearbox from the mid-90s, the fuel economy of this engine is likely to be average to below-average compared to modern vehicles, especially in urban environments.

Best Use Case: Mixed driving, suitable for families needing a practical and spacious vehicle for commuting and occasional longer trips, where outright performance isn't the primary concern.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Spacious interior and generous trunk capacity for its class
  • • Generally reliable and easy to maintain (for its age)
  • • Practical and affordable family transport solution
  • • Decent power output for a 1.8L engine of its time

Cons:

  • • Dated safety features by modern standards
  • • Modest fuel economy, especially with the automatic transmission
  • • Uninspired interior design and material quality
  • • 4-speed automatic transmission can feel sluggish and unrefined
  • • Road noise can be noticeable at higher speeds
