Performance Verdict

Exceptional performance for heavy-duty tasks, offering immense low-end torque and impressive towing capacity thanks to the Duramax diesel engine and Allison 10-speed transmission.

Fuel Economy

While not 'economical' in absolute terms, this diesel engine provides superior fuel efficiency compared to its gasoline counterpart, especially under load, making it the more practical choice for frequent heavy work.

Best Use Case: Heavy-duty towing (e.g., large trailers, RVs, equipment), commercial hauling, and long-distance work where maximum torque and efficiency under load are paramount.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Exceptional towing and hauling capabilities, especially with the Duramax diesel
  • • Robust and durable construction for heavy-duty work
  • • Spacious and comfortable interior for a work truck
  • • Advanced technology and driver-assist features available
  • • Strong resale value for Duramax models

Cons:

  • • Large size can be challenging in urban environments or tight spaces
  • • Fuel economy, particularly with the gasoline V8, can be high
  • • Higher purchase price, especially for well-equipped diesel models
  • • Ride quality can be firm when unloaded, typical for HD trucks
