4.1 (116 Hp) Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

The 4.1L inline-six delivered adequate power for comfortable cruising and daily family duties in the early 1950s. While not a performance engine, its 116 Hp provided smooth, dependable acceleration for its era.

Fuel Economy

Fuel economy was typical for a large displacement carbureted engine of its time, meaning it was relatively inefficient by modern standards. Owners could expect moderate consumption for a vehicle of its size and weight.

Best Use Case: Long-distance cruising, comfortable family transport, classic car shows.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Classic American styling and presence
  • • Spacious and comfortable interior for six passengers
  • • Smooth and dependable inline-six engine
  • • Relatively robust and simple mechanicals
  • • Comfortable ride quality for its era

Cons:

  • • Poor fuel economy by modern standards
  • • Lack of modern safety features (e.g., airbags, ABS)
  • • Performance is modest compared to contemporary vehicles
  • • Drum brakes require more stopping distance
  • • Manual transmission might not appeal to all modern drivers
