DeSoto Firedome:

The DeSoto Firedome was a full-size automobile produced between 1952 and 1959 by the DeSoto division of the Chrysler Corporation. Introduced as DeSoto's premium line of vehicles for the 1952 model year, it retained that position until demoted to the least expensive model for 1955. It was reclassified to become a mid-range vehicle for 1957 and was discontinued for the 1960 model year.
The 1953 Firedome was introduced just prior to DeSoto's 25th Anniversary in 1953, and arrived as the new top series, displacing the Custom nameplate which was retired at the end of the 1952 model year. Rating 5 stars

Performance Verdict

The 6.3L V8, delivering 305 Hp and 556 Nm of torque, provided formidable performance for its time. Paired with the smooth TorqueFlite automatic transmission, it offered effortless acceleration and comfortable highway cruising, embodying classic American muscle.

Fuel Economy

Typical of large American V8s from the late 1950s, fuel economy is very poor by modern standards. Expect single-digit MPG figures, making it an expensive car to run in terms of fuel consumption.

Best Use Case: Highway cruising, weekend drives, classic car shows, and collector events where its powerful V8 and distinctive styling can be appreciated.

What can you say on the comfort of the interior? Have heard some knocks on the 1958 for being too plastic compared to the other trims. Coming from an FJ I’m used to a plastic interior, just would expect a little more for the entry price.
😐 NEUTRAL
My dad almost bought one of these rigs BUT put his money in a '59 Pllymouth sedan instead.
😐 NEUTRAL
I remember seeing these on an old Groucho Marx show. Does it have the fabled push button transmission?
