4.6 V8 Triton (231 Hp) 4x4 Automatic Verdict:

Rating 3 stars

Performance Verdict

Offers the versatility of 4x4 with the entry-level V8. Performance is sufficient for most light-duty 4x4 needs, though it can feel strained with heavy loads in challenging terrain.

Fuel Economy

The least powerful V8 combined with 4x4 means fuel economy is still poor, but potentially the 'best' of the V8 options for those prioritizing efficiency within the F-150 lineup.

Best Use Case: Light off-roading, winter driving, general utility where 4x4 is needed but maximum power isn't critical.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Spacious SuperCrew cabin for passengers and gear
  • • Strong towing and hauling capabilities
  • • Robust V8 engine options (especially 5.4L)
  • • Durable construction suitable for work
  • • Good value as a used truck

Cons:

  • • Poor fuel economy across all V8 engines
  • • Large size can be challenging for city driving and parking
  • • Some known engine issues (e.g., spark plug problems on Triton V8s)
  • • Ride quality can be stiff, typical for a truck
  • • Interior materials are utilitarian, not luxurious
