1.8 (95 Hp) CAT Automatic Verdict:

Rating 3 stars

Performance Verdict

The combination of a smaller engine, catalytic converter, and automatic transmission results in sluggish acceleration (13s to 100km/h).

Fuel Economy

Despite the performance, 8.7 l/100 km is a decent figure for an automatic with a catalytic converter from this era, prioritizing emissions over raw efficiency.

Best Use Case: Strictly city driving where low speed and convenience are prioritized over performance.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Spacious and comfortable interior for its class
  • • Good value for money compared to Japanese rivals
  • • Wide range of engine options, including a smooth V6
  • • Generally robust and reliable for its era
  • • Distinctive styling for its time

Cons:

  • • Handling not as refined as some competitors
  • • Fuel economy on larger engines can be high
  • • Automatic transmissions can feel dated and sluggish
  • • Lack of advanced safety features (common for the era)
  • • Interior materials could feel less premium than some rivals
