Nissan Safari:

The Nissan Patrol is a series of off-road vehicles and full-size SUVs manufactured by Nissan in Japan since 1951 and sold throughout the world. It is Nissan's longest running series of models.

4.2 TD (145 Hp) Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

The 4.2 TD (TD42T) engine offers exceptional low-end torque, making it superb for off-roading, towing, and heavy-duty tasks. On-road acceleration is modest, prioritizing durability over speed.

Fuel Economy

As a large displacement turbo-diesel from its era, fuel economy is a significant drawback, especially when paired with the automatic transmission and its substantial weight.

Best Use Case: Heavy-duty off-roading, long-distance remote travel, towing large loads, and utility work where reliability and torque are paramount.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Exceptional off-road capability and ruggedness
  • • Legendary reliability, especially the TD42T engine
  • • Strong towing capacity and torque output
  • • Spacious interior with 7-seat option
  • • Robust ladder-frame chassis and solid axles

Cons:

  • • Poor fuel economy, particularly for daily driving
  • • Limited on-road performance and acceleration
  • • Dated interior refinement and features compared to modern SUVs
  • • Lack of modern safety technologies
  • • Large turning circle can make city maneuvering challenging
