Opel Admiral:

The Opel Admiral is a luxury car made by the German car manufacturer Opel from 1937 until 1939 and again from 1964 until 1977.

2.8 E (165 Hp) Automatic Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

This top-tier fuel-injected 2.8L engine delivers the most power in the lineup, providing excellent cruising capability and a refined driving experience. The automatic transmission complements its luxury intent.

Fuel Economy

Despite the slight power bump, fuel economy would be comparable to the 160 Hp 'E' model, benefiting from fuel injection over carbureted versions. Still a thirsty engine by modern standards.

Best Use Case: Highway / Executive cruising

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Smooth and refined inline-six engines
  • • Spacious and comfortable interior for long journeys
  • • Classic executive sedan styling with stately presence
  • • Robust build quality typical of Opel in the 1970s
  • • Good highway cruiser

Cons:

  • • High fuel consumption by modern standards
  • • Limited safety features compared to contemporary vehicles
  • • Finding specific parts can be challenging for a classic car
  • • Performance is more stately than sporty, especially with automatic transmissions
  • • Rust can be an issue on unrestored examples
