2.5 TD (131 Hp) Automatic Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

Adequate performance for a large diesel sedan of its time, but the automatic gearbox dulls acceleration. Best for relaxed cruising.

Fuel Economy

Reasonable fuel economy for a large automatic diesel, especially on longer journeys, though urban consumption is high.

Best Use Case: Highway cruising / Long-distance travel

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Spacious and comfortable interior for long journeys
  • • Smooth ride quality, especially on highways
  • • Wide range of engine options, including powerful V6s and economical diesels
  • • Rear-wheel-drive platform offers balanced handling
  • • Good value on the second-hand market

Cons:

  • • Fuel economy can be poor on V6 petrol models
  • • Some engines (e.g., 2.0 DTI) are underpowered for the car's size
  • • Interior design feels dated by modern standards
  • • Potential for rust issues on older examples
  • • Automatic transmissions can be slow and less efficient
