The Proton Exora is a discontinued automobile produced by the Malaysian car manufacturer Proton. Considered to be a compact multi-purpose vehicle in the C-segment, it became Malaysia's first locally developed MPV upon its release on April 15, 2009. Its facelift revision, which debuted on December 15, 2011, became the first Proton to use the CamPro CFE turbocharged engine and CVT technology.
The first sketches of a Proton MPV existed as early as the 1990s. During this period, all of Proton's offerings were either saloon or hatchback vehicles. In 2001, Proton experimented with larger vehicles by introducing the Juara Mini-MPV, a rebadged Mitsubishi Town Box Wide. However, its unconventional kei car design drew criticism, and it was discontinued in 2004 amid poor sales....(Read more on Wikipedia)

1.6 16V (140 Hp) CVT Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

The turbocharged 1.6L CFE engine provides commendable low-end torque (205 Nm) and sufficient power (140 Hp) for an MPV of its size, making it capable for both city driving and highway cruising, especially when loaded. The CVT ensures smooth, albeit not always engaging, power delivery.

Fuel Economy

While the CVT aims for efficiency, the turbocharged engine in an MPV body means fuel economy is respectable rather than outstanding. Expect moderate consumption, particularly in mixed driving conditions, typical for a 7-seater.

Best Use Case: Mixed driving, suitable for family use and occasional long-distance travel with multiple passengers.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Spacious and practical 7-seater interior, ideal for families.
  • • Turbocharged 1.6L CFE engine offers good low-end torque for an MPV.
  • • Competitive pricing provides strong value for money in its segment.
  • • Smooth power delivery from the CVT gearbox.
  • • Decent ride comfort for long journeys.

Cons:

  • • CVT can feel unengaging during spirited driving.
  • • Relatively basic safety features compared to newer rivals.
  • • Interior materials might not feel premium.
  • • Fuel economy is moderate, not class-leading.
  • • Ride height is somewhat low for an MPV, limiting rough road capability.
