Proton Iriz:

The Proton Iriz is a supermini produced by Malaysian automobile manufacturer Proton since 2014. It was unveiled on 25 September 2014 at Proton City by Malaysia’s fourth and seventh prime minister, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. The Iriz platform is also used by its sedan equivalent, the Persona which was introduced in 2016.
The name Iriz is inspired by the anatomical term iris, responsible for sight and vision.
Plans for a Proton Savvy replacement were first revealed with the introduction of the Proton EMAS concept cars at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. The EMAS concept cars were designed by Italdesign Giugiaro and are related to the Lotus Ethos, a similar concept car from Proton's British subsidiary. Proton and Lotus Cars wished to jointly develop the global small car, where the Proton versions will be aimed at the budget conscious and the Lotus models on the hot hatch market. 1.3 (95 Hp) CVT Verdict:

Rating 3 stars

Performance Verdict

Best suited for city driving, where its 95 Hp is adequate. It struggles on highways, especially with passengers or cargo, requiring the CVT to hold higher RPMs, increasing noise.

Fuel Economy

Potentially slightly better fuel economy than the 1.6L in ideal conditions, but often needs to work harder, which can negate some efficiency benefits.

Best Use Case: Primarily city driving and short, local commutes where higher speeds are not frequently encountered.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Improved interior quality and infotainment system post-facelift
  • • Good handling dynamics for a car in its segment
  • • Competitive pricing offering strong value for money
  • • Decent standard safety features (ABS, EBD, airbags)
  • • Refreshed exterior styling looks more modern

Cons:

  • • CVT can be noisy and feel unrefined under hard acceleration
  • • Modest highway performance, especially with the 1.3L engine
  • • Fuel economy is not class-leading compared to some rivals
  • • Rear drum brakes on all trims
  • • Limited rear legroom for taller passengers
