4.0 V8 (260 Hp) Verdict:

Rating 5 stars

Performance Verdict

The 4.0 V8 (1UZ-FE) engine delivered smooth, refined power, making the Celsior a comfortable and capable highway cruiser. Its 260 Hp was competitive for a luxury sedan of its era, offering effortless acceleration and a serene driving experience.

Fuel Economy

As a large displacement V8 from the late 80s, fuel economy is not a strong suit. Expect moderate to high fuel consumption, especially in city driving conditions, making it less efficient by modern standards.

Best Use Case: Highway cruising, long-distance luxury travel, comfortable daily driving for those prioritizing smoothness over fuel efficiency.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Legendary 1UZ-FE V8 engine reliability and smoothness
  • • Exceptional ride comfort and quiet cabin
  • • High-quality interior materials and build
  • • Timeless, understated luxury design
  • • Excellent long-term durability and ownership value

Cons:

  • • Poor fuel economy, especially by modern standards
  • • Dated safety features compared to contemporary vehicles
  • • Potential for age-related maintenance on suspension components
  • • Some parts specific to Celsior (JDM) might be harder to source than LS400 parts
  • • Not designed for sporty driving dynamics
