GMC Jimmy:

The Chevrolet Blazer and its badge engineered GMC Jimmy counterpart are compact/mid-size SUVs manufactured and marketed by Chevrolet and GMC from the 1983 through 2005 model years, over two generations – until the early 1990s alongside these brands' full-size SUVs with near identical nameplates, but lacking removable hardtops. 4.3i V6 (190 Hp) 4x4 Automatic Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

The 4.3L V6 provides adequate power and strong low-end torque for daily driving, light towing, and off-roading. While not a performance powerhouse, it moves the LWB Jimmy competently for its size and era.

Fuel Economy

Fuel economy is a significant drawback, with high urban consumption figures (15.7 l/100 km) typical for a large V6 SUV of its era. Expect frequent fuel stops, especially with 4x4 engaged.

Best Use Case: Mixed driving, light towing, and off-road excursions where its robust nature and 4x4 system shine. Less ideal for pure city commuting due to fuel consumption.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Robust 4x4 capability (on relevant trims)
  • • Spacious interior and cargo capacity
  • • Reliable 4.3L V6 engine with good torque
  • • Comfortable ride for its class and era
  • • Strong towing capacity

Cons:

  • • Poor fuel economy across all trims
  • • Outdated interior and safety features by modern standards
  • • Vague steering and handling characteristics
  • • Prone to rust in some areas, especially older models
  • • Limited refinement compared to later SUVs
