3.5 (270 Hp) Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

The 3.5L VQ35DE V6 engine delivers strong acceleration and significantly more engaging performance, transforming the Altima into a genuinely quick sedan. It's a highlight of the generation.

Fuel Economy

As expected, fuel economy is lower than the 2.5L, but it's reasonable for a powerful V6 in this segment. The trade-off for performance is well-justified for many buyers.

Best Use Case: Enthusiastic driving, highway passing, drivers seeking premium power and refinement.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Spacious and comfortable interior for its class
  • • Strong V6 engine option (VQ35DE) offers excellent performance
  • • Good value proposition in the used car market
  • • Smooth ride quality, suitable for long journeys
  • • Available manual transmission for the 2.5L engine

Cons:

  • • CVT transmission can feel unrefined and has known reliability concerns
  • • Interior materials and design can feel dated compared to rivals
  • • Road noise can be noticeable at higher speeds
  • • No AWD option available, only FWD
  • • Some early QR25DE engines had minor oil consumption issues
