520i (170 Hp) Steptronic Verdict:

Rating 4 stars

Performance Verdict

The entry-level petrol, providing adequate 170 Hp for city driving, but less spirited on highways (8.3 sec 0-100km/h).

Fuel Economy

Moderate fuel economy, without the mild-hybrid assistance of other 520i variants, making it less efficient.

Best Use Case: City driving, budget-conscious buyers, and those not requiring high performance or the latest hybrid tech.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • • Extensive and highly efficient engine lineup, including mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options.
  • • Luxurious and high-quality interior with advanced technology and infotainment.
  • • Refined ride quality and excellent sound insulation for superior comfort.
  • • Sharp handling for an executive sedan, especially with adaptive suspension options.
  • • Comprehensive suite of safety and driver-assistance features.

Cons:

  • • Can become very expensive with optional extras, impacting overall value.
  • • Rear middle seat is less comfortable due to transmission tunnel.
  • • Some drivers may find the iDrive infotainment system complex initially.
  • • Design changes in the LCI are subtle, not a radical departure from pre-facelift.
